And they bring home the Gold...

This past weekend was an exiting weekend at the Westerhoud's! My husbands team - Battle River Icehawks went into their 4th Sledge Hockey Tournament and came out with the Gold.
What does this mean? Well - for the last 7 years Mike has been able to fulfill his dream of playing hockey - after losing his leg to cancer. He played 3 years with the Edmonton team - being very faithful in going to late night practices. Four years ago he had a vision to start his own sledge Hockey team here in Wetaskiwin. So a team was formed and has grown into a team of support and friendship. A team that stays the course and steps up. It's a recreational team - non the less when they are out on that ice - it becomes very competitive.
This past Sunday the team went into the Gold finals with a bit of a disadvantage - missing some players.
We were all feeling it...the stress, the anxiety - as the team that they were playing that morning - they lost to the night before 4-1.
Before we knew it - the game started and ended up the longest game ever. 2 over times and it ended with a shoot out - the goal being played by one of our own. WE WIN.
The team has never played better together - They went out and played their absolute best - and the best they were. What was the best part - the end...when our goalie stopped that last puck that could have ended our win...the gloves came off - and the hugs and pile ups was everywhere - in the stands and on the ice.
They always say it doesn't matter if you win or lose its how you play - this is true in some sense - they played so well...not letting 1 goal in...they were such a team...but hey...we will take the win too...:) It could have gone either way - the Red Deer team was good - and they too deserved to win - they played so well...
What does this all mean....the team used their gifts and talents...together - they listened to one another - they shined...it was a TEAM....and that moment of winning will be with them for a long time.
I am proud of Mike - who he is and what he does. He is a man of character and a man who steps up. A man who had a dream and fullfilled it. A man of action.
I am proud of Ice Hawks...A Christian team that believes and lives out their faith even on the ice. Allowing each other to use their gifts and being there for one another. You can see it. It's a good thing.
I know it's only a hockey game - what does this have to do with our faith....alot I think.
Support - love - playing clean - stepping up - It's about being there for each other and allowing each other to be who you are to be.
It's about ending well. Isn't that it...Ending well...our walk with God...living out a life here well...how we play on the ice...how we 'fans' act on the stands...people are watching ... we can serve God - in many different ways...this is one...how we act out and how we play...how we are...in the gifts and talents God gives us.
As a pastor I had many different opportunities to 'minister this weekend' at the arena - it was a cool way to do church...
How are you living out your faith...in what you are involved in? That is a good question to ponder....? live it well...
